about

90 Seconds is a track that sounds a bit different from the other tracks on the album, it is a song about the “liquidators”, who were called up to clean up after the disaster, the song focuses on the brave soldiers and others, that were asked to remove the highly radioactive graphite, that was on the reactor roof, they had to go out heavily protected and for no more than 90 seconds, hence the title of the song, because the radiation levels were off the scale.

This particular track came about whilst trying ideas out, basically jamming, and the main melody came out of that session, it is quite a sad track, with hints of both a Kraftwerk and OMD influence.I really like the sound I have used for the main melody; it fits so well.

lyrics

Chernobyl liquidators
Were the civil and military personnel
Who were called upon
To deal with the consequences
Of the nuclear disaster
They had to clear highly radioactive graphite
From the reactor roof
Each liquidator only had 90 seconds
To undertake their duties
Due to the very high level of radiation

The liquidators are widely credited
With limiting, both the immediate
And long-term damage from the disaster
In the 90 seconds they spent
On the reactor roof
They received a lifetime dose of radiation
Many liquidators, were praised as heroes
By the soviet government, and the press
